South African country, Botswana has received its first Bitcoin Automated Teller Machine (BATM).
The ATM which was installed by Express Minds Ltd, is located inside a shopping mall in the country’s capital Gaborone. With the installation of the BATM, the number of BATM’s on the continent is now 10.
According to one of the directors at Express Minds, Brose Watlala, the BATM can only handle a daily transaction limit of BWP50,000 (~$5,000) at the moment, processes user information intuitively.
“We have been working tirelessly to make it easier for Batswana [people of Botswana] to buy cryptocurrencies and now we are bringing simplicity, convenience and trust to the cryptocurrency purchasing experience.”
“This one way machine is still the easiest, fastest and safest way to buy bitcoin,” he added.
South Africa has always been the main destination for citizens of Botswana who seek to buy cryptocurrencies, as there are no known cryptocurrency exchange in the diamond-rich country.
Express Minds Ltd. hopes that its bitcoin ATM will gradually increase awareness and further boost acceptance and use of cryptocurrency in the country.
